Signed Timestamp.org

What and why?

Now that we have software-patents in some parts of the world, prior art can be an important thing to have.
So that's why there's signedtimestmap.org. You calculate an MD5-, an SHA-1 or PGP-hash over your source and let it be signed by signedtimestamp.org. After that you have the proof that there is a system in the world (the one of signedtimestamp.org) that assures that there was a file with a certain hash on a time 'x'.
The server is synchronized with 2 DCF77-receivers to an atomic clock in Germany. They are also synced against a couple of NTP (time)-servers on the internet.

How?

Send an e-mail to 'timestamp@signedtimestamp.org' with in the subject 'sign mail'. Maximum size of an e-mail is 16KB, larger e-mails will not be processed: you won't even receive an errormessage!
The contents plus a little text saying at what time the message was received will then be signed with a PGP (GPG) key.
The key (with id 0xA0A747E8) can be retrieved by sending an e-mail to 'timestamp@signedtimestamp.org' with in the subject 'pgp key'.
